- Wencai Liu has been awarded an IUPAP (International Union of Pure and Applied Physics) Early Career Scientist Prize in Mathematical Physics.
- Peter Kuchment has been named a fellow of the Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence Association (AAIA).
- Anne Shiu will give an invited address at the AMS Fall Central Sectional Meeting in San Antonio.

- Angie Allen, Ali Foran, and Alex Hening have received College of Arts and Sciences Awards for 2024: Angie Allen received a Faculty Excellence Award; Ali Foran received an Early Career Teaching Award; and Alex Hening received a Research Impact Award.
- Wencai Liu has been named a Simons Fellow for 2024.
- Xiaoyu Su has been selected to receive a 2024 Association of Former Students Distinguished Graduate Student Award for Excellence in Teaching.

- Texas A&M will host the Texas Analysis and Mathematical Physics Symposium (TexAMP) 2024, Feb. 9 - 11
- Distinguished Professor Guoliang Yu has been awarded a Gauss Professorship by the Goettingen Academy of Sciences and Humanities.
- Spectral Theory and Applications Conference, October 12-15, 2023. The conference celebrates Distinguished Professor Peter Kuchment and his contributions to the field of spectral theory.
- Wencai Liu, with Svetlana Jitomirskaya, has just received the Frontiers of Science Award at the inaugural International Congress of Basic Science.
- Department Outstanding Teaching Awards went to Irina Bobkova and Constantin Onica. Department Outstanding Service Awards went to David Manuel and Philip Yasskin.
- Instructional Professor Oksana Shatalov wins the 2023 Public Engagement and Outreach Award, and Applied Mathematics Major William Frendreiss wins a 2023 Outstanding Graduating Senior Award, from the College of Arts & Sciences.
- Applied Mathematics Major William Frendreiss has been awarded a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship to join the Georgia Tech ACO program in interdisciplinary math and computer science. He has been advised in undergraduate research and thesis at TAMU by Assistant Professor Wencai Liu and by Professor Matthew Young.
- The Mathematics and Statistics Fair will be held on April 15, 2023. This event is free and open to all ages, featuring problem-solving, games, puzzles, mathematical arts and crafts, and a public lecture. For more information and to register, click here.
- Peter Kuchment has been selected as Distinguished Rothschild Visiting Fellow at the Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences, Cambridge.
- Irina Bobkova and Jonas Luhrmann have been awarded NSF CAREER grants.
- Sue Geller has been selected as Fellow of the Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM), Class of 2023.
- Chia-Yu Chang (advisor JM Landsberg) and Ka Ho Wong (advisor Tian Yang) have been selected to receive the department's Guseman Prize for graduate students.
- The 2022 High School Math Contest on campus on November 12 was a great success, with about 270 students from around 45 different schools, coaches, and parents participating.
- The Department of Mathematics is ranked 19th in the world in the latest US News & World Report ranking of Best Global Universities for Mathematics.

- Texas A&M University will host the Mathematics and Statistics Fair on Saturday, February 26, 2022 in Blocker. The fair will be fun for family members of all ages.
- Simon Foucart is named Director of the Center for Approximation and Mathematical Data Analytics (CAMDA), formerly the Center for Approximation Theory.
- Patricia Alonso Ruiz has been awarded an NSF CAREER grant. See the College of Science article.
- Two former Texas A&M postdocs, Luis David Garcia Puente and Jonathan Hauenstein, both mentored by Frank Sottile, were selected as Fellows of the American Mathematical Society, Class of 2022.
- Travis Dillon, former TAMU REU student mentored by Matthew Young, receives the 2022 AMS-MAA-SIAM Morgan Prize for Outstanding Research in Mathematics by an Undergraduate Student, for collected works.
- Priyanga Ganesan (advisors Michael Brannan and Eric Rowell) is the fall 2021 recipient of the Dr. Joseph Newton Graduate Student Service Award.
- Agam Shayit, physics major, has been selected for the Hyer Award for work supervised by Professor Steven Fulling.
- Zhengye Zhou (advisor Jeffrey Kuan) and Elise Walker (advisor Frank Sottile) have been selected to receive the department's Guseman Prize for graduate students.

- Matthew Faust, PhD student, has won a 2020 Paul R. Halmos-Lester R. Ford Award with coauthors for an outstanding expository article in American Mathematical Monthly.
- Cosmas Kravaris, mathematics major, has been selected as a 2021 Astronaut Scholar. See College of Science article.
- Elise Walker, PhD student, has won a 2021 College of Science Leadership in Equity and Diversity Award.
- Sara Pollock, a former Visiting Assistant Professor currently at the University of Florida, has been awarded an NSF CAREER grant.
- TAMU Association for Women in Mathematics Student Chapter has won an Adair Organization of the Year Award for student organizations. Leaders of the student chapter are Priyanga Ganesan, Hannah Solomon, Lauren Snider, Zhaobidan Feng, Elise Walker, and faculty advisor Laura Matusevich.
- The National Math Festival took place April 16-18, 2021.
- Jean-Luc Guermond has been named a SIAM Fellow, Class of 2021.
- Sharon Esparza has been selected as a recipient of a 2021 President's Meritorious Service Award.
- Priyanga Ganesan has been selected as a recipient of the 2021 Buck Weirus Spirit Award by the Aggie Network.

- Texas A&M hosted (remotely) the third annual meeting of the SIAM TX-LA Section, October 16-18, 2020. There were 550 participants from all over the world. See the SIAM News article.

- Edriss Titi and collaborators Chongsheng Cao and Jinkai Li were selected to receive a 2020 ICCM Best Paper Award for "Global well-posedness of the three-dimensional primitive equations with only horizontal viscosity and diffusion".
- Nida Obatake has been awarded an American Dissertation Fellowship by the American Association of University Women.

- Ronald DeVore, Yalchin Efendiev, Simon Foucart, Boris Hanin, and Guergana Petrova are part of a multi-disciplinary team led by statistician Bani Mallick that has been awarded a TRIPODS Institute by the NSF.
- US News and World Report ranks Texas A&M University 17th in list of Best Global Universities for Mathematics.
- Nida Obatake has been selected to receive a 2019 College of Science Undergraduate Research Mentoring Award.
- Sarah Witherspoon has been appointed as a 2019-20 Southeastern Conference Academic Leadership Development Program Fellow.
- The Board of Regents has accorded the title of Professor Emerita to Paula Tretkoff.
- Luke Robitaille, a several time contestant in our High School Mathematics Contest (each time winning in three or more categories), has won an individual gold medal (tied for 18th place) at the 60th International Mathematics Olympiad. Luke was also part of the US team that shared first place with the Chinese team. Results are here.
- Jennifer Whitfield has been appointed to the Lower-Division Academic Course Guide Advisory Committee by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
- Jane Ondrasek has been selected to receive a 2019 College of Science Outstanding Staff Achievement Award.
- Our graduate student Nida Obatake was one of two winners of the best poster presentation award at the SIAM Conference on Applied Algebraic Geometry in Bern, Switzerland. Nida's advisor is Anne Shiu.

- Eric Rowell , Paul Bruillard, Richard Ng, and Zhenghan Wang have been selected to receive the Gerald L. Alexanderson Award (see page 10 of AIM Newsletter) by the American Institute of Mathematics (AIM) for their paper "Rank-finiteness for modular categories" (Journal of the American Mathematical Society 29 (2016), 857-881).

- Matt Papanikolas and Chieh-Yu Chang won a Best Paper Award from the International Consortium of Chinese Mathematicians for papers written in the last five years. A list of 2017 recipients is here.
- The 2018 Sue Geller Undergraduate Lecture will be held Wednesday, January 17, at 6:00pm in Blocker 117 (reception at 6:30). The series is named in honor of Professor Sue Geller in the Department of Mathematics. This year's Lecturer is Judy L. Walker, Aaron Douglas Professor of Mathematics at the University of Nebraska. Everyone is welcome.
- Eric Rowell is one of four PIs on a Focused Research Groups $1.3 million ($307,894 locally) grant from the National Science Foundation to investigate the mathematical foundations of topological quantum computation and their applications. The other partner institutions are UC Santa Barbara, Louisiana State University, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. See stories here and here.
- The Department of Mathematics is offering a game based calculus course in Spring 2018 (look for Math289 in Howdy). The course is based on the game Variant, by Triseum. This game resulted from an initial $100K seed grant from the TAMU Tier-One program, for which Paulo Lima-Filho and Triseum CEO Andre Thomas served as Principal Investigators.
- TAMU Qatar hosts mathematics camp attracting young students from across Qatar. The event was organized by Ahmad El-Guindy, Associate Proferssor of Mathematics at TAMUQ.
