• First day handout.
  • Remarks on the fundamental theorem of calculus.
  • The solid whose edges are wires joining two puppet sticks, one along the line [[0,1,0],[0,-1,0]] below, and one at right angles above it, with ends [[1,0,1],[-1,0,1]]. Maple sheet link. Revised and extended version here..

  • Averages, averages. Uper and lower bounds for the average, when the function involved is concave, in one direction, throughout the interval. Maple sheet .
  • Volumes of rotation. The little quiz. No solutions supplied; most of you already know how these go. If not, take another look at the textbook coverage of this topic.
  • Axes labels in Maple plots. Maple sheet .
  • Integration by parts and a twist where going the "wrong way" gives an answer.
  • Numerical integration: A Maple sheet.
  • Details for the common exam. Scantron #882-ES, number two pencil, calculator allowed in the second hour for the workout part. These are found, together with the rules for taking the exam early, in the common exam guidelines within the course home page.
  • A set of sample questions for Exam 1 is now available on the Web at: this link .
  • NOTE: The common exam is CLOSED BOOK. No notes or books of any kind are allowed. Calculators should be "clean" of formulas. That ioks of any kind are allowed. Calculators should be "clean" of formulas. That is, you use them for their numerical speed and not their mnemonic crutch.
  • A discussion of the 1997 exam 1 posted in the overall course home page. PDF file
  • The falling parachute m just for the record. Too much Maple coding, too many pitfalls. Text authors cannot have realized the difficulty of writing the code.
  • Sequences and series, the Maple perspective . READ THIS FILE.
  • Sequences where a_next=f(a_current). Maple sheet.
  • A one point quiz will appear in this space some time this Friday March 4. Email me with your solutions.
  • Here it is: the problem. It depends on your student ID number.
  • Solutions to exam 2 in PDF format. Also, a related Maple worksheet on Alternating Convergence .

  • One point question: Find a vector that bisects the ANGLE between the vectors [1,2,3] and [2,3,5]. That is, you want a vector V so that V is in the plane of those two vectors, and makes the same angle of less than 45 degrees with each. Hint: Unit vectors may be important. Email in your solutions, due by Thursday at class time.
  • Web based resource: Amy Austin's WEEKINREVIEW material for exam 3 is now posted at this link .
  • One point problem due TUESDAY APR 20 (new time!) BY CLASS TIME here . Associated Maple sheet. (The problem is restated at the bottom of that sheet, in the final text field.) Click-through version: change the assigned values of a and b to fit the question, then execute the sheet, with the new numbers. No need to think or even watch, just hit RETURN until you reach the end of the sheet. Then, transcribe the required ratios and email them. If you get curious, you can go back and trace the how and why. If you just want the point, it's yours.
  • A Maple sheet on space curves.
  • Maple review sheet about series.
  • Maple sheet with video of a spinning four-cube. This is a large file and computationally taxing and it may crash your computer, but then again it may work and it's fun to look at. It would make a nice screen-saver if it weren't such a resource hog.
