Department of Mathematics Positions available for 2009-2010

Applications are invited for tenured, tenure-eligible, and
visiting faculty positions beginning Fall 2009.
As part of the faculty reinvestment plan
by Texas A&M, the Mathematics Department expects to fill
several positions at the assistant, associate or
full professor levels.
The research field is open, but we
particularly seek applications from individuals whose
mathematical interests both augment and build upon
research interests within the department, and/or
who can collaborate with researchers in other departments
around the university.
- Tenured Positions
-
The successful applicant will fill a leadership role in
the department.
An established research program, including success in attracting external
funding and supervision of graduate students, and
a demonstrated ability and interest in teaching are required.
Salary will be competitive and resources to help build a successful
program can be expected.

- Tenure Track Positions

We expect to fill several positions at the
Assistant Professor level.
The successful candidate will exhibit
strong research potential and evidence of excellence in teaching.
Research productivity beyond the doctoral dissertation will normally
be expected.
- Visiting Assistant (Postdoctoral) Professorships
-
The Department operates a strong postdoctoral program
that combines research and teaching opportunities and
these 3-year postdoctoral positions are intended for those who have recently received their Ph.D.
Our goal is to train recent graduates to become the mathematical leaders
of the future.
The positions are for three years duration.
Since the expectation is for collaborative efforts with our existing faculty,
the application letter/form should identify those permanent department
members or groups with which they have close
research interests.
- Visiting Associate/Full Professorships

Subject to availability of funding, we expect to make a limited number of
visiting appointments. These may be for a single semester
or a one year period. Preference will be given to individuals
that have partial support from their home institution.

In common with every department we struggle with how to assimilate the
large amount of hiring data we receive. Our main concern is getting all of several
hundred applications to the appropriate faculty members. While our
staff can by now recognize broad categories such as "partial
differential equations" and "algebra", they will be at a loss with
"modular elliptic curves".
Thus at the minimum, please
include the relevant primary and secondary interest numbers from the
AMS Mathematics Subject Classification with your application (the
online hiring form requires this).

Timetable of the Hiring Process
- Deadline for Applications - December 15, 2008 . Early submissions
are encouraged.

We will start screening applications for all positions in
mid-October, 2008 with interviews starting in late fall or winter.

Screening for the visiting assistant professor positions
will begin early January 2009 and we expect to make some offers
shortly thereafter.
Depending on the progress of our hiring for tenured/tenure track faculty
further visiting offers may be made later in the spring semester.

Senior visiting positions are primarily funded from salary savings
generated from sabbatical leaves of our existing faculty.
Offers for these positions are made as funding becomes available.
